The collector of the years contemporary with this series loved mint stamps as much as used ones, while postal history was considered less important. It is therefore normal to find these classic series of the Italian Area (but also foreign ones) complete on commemorative cards, which were often then cut into fragments and mounted in collections to make the sets with certainly original postmarks, as they were canceled by postal officials directly at the ... collector's request!
