This very rare block of four shows the background of the III composition of the III issue, that is, the one used by Francesco Matraire and printed in lithography to meet the many requests from collectors in the field, already very active at the time. These black proofs were produced in 1863 at the same time as other Matraire issues, such as the postage dues or fiscal stamps, and were made in quantity. In recent times many dealers and experts confused the completed reprints, with the inverted colors of the Unissued Sardinia issues, and in some cases even with the original issues in new condition. This proof block is practically unique and of outstanding quality, essentially the finest known.
